June 2024 Newsletter

June Newsletter

BFIRST is a UK registered charity which trains surgeons and their teams working in the most resource poor countries in the world to enable them to undertake reconstructive Plastic Surgery independently in an equitable and sustainable manner, thus releasing children and adults from the state of poverty and destitution associated with physical disability, injury and disease, amenable to surgical treatment.

BFIRST also provides educational resources for Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons through our Webinar series.

In this month's newsletter we share with you our upcoming projects, educational activities, and how you can be involved!

Projects

Tanzania

We are excited about our next project to Tanzania!

Next month a team of Consultants, Registrars and Plastic Surgeons will spend 5 days at CCBRT charity hospital in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

During this trip they will train local surgeons in advanced plastic surgical techniques, train allied health professionals with wound management, and help to develop a sustainable local practice of plastic surgery.

We look forward to hearing more about their work!

Cycle for BFIRST

Calling all cyclists!

Sign up to ride from London to Brighton on Sunday 15th September!

Sign up by: 9th September 2024

Minimum fundraising: £150

Fundraise for BFIRST on our first ever charity bike ride alongside hundreds of other cyclists, while you take an epic journey through the hills of Surrey finishing on Brighton seafront. The funds you raise will train plastic surgeons in resource-scarce countries to improve the life of children and adults affected by disability or deformity.

How can I help?

Volunteering

BFIRST is keen for surgeons, nurses and allied specialists to all get involved. Please do get in touch if you are interested. Reconstructive surgery is a team sport!

Also, if you have ideas for new projects that you would like to start, perhaps in new countries, or in areas we already work in, we would love to hear about these, and discuss further.
