BFIRST is keen for surgeons, nurses and allied specialists to all get involved. Please do get in touch if you are interested. Reconstructive surgery is a team sport!
We do not wish to discourage anyone, but we also do not wish to encourage ‘volunteering for the sake of it’ let alone the idea of ‘surgical safaris’, which have, unfortunately, blighted the global surgery scene in the past.
Our ethos is to provide the same quality of surgery, training, capacity building, and equipment provision ‘as you would see at home’. This might not be possible immediately, but that is the aim for us to establish in due course.
Please look at each project, and if you feel you can contribute appropriately, we would love to hear from you. Please don’t be shy.
You might be worried about the time commitment, time is surprisingly available once we work things out!
Also, if you have ideas for new projects that you would like to start, perhaps in new countries, or in areas we already work in, we would love to hear about these, and discuss further.
