Mr Paul McArthur is a consultant plastic surgeon in Liverpool, specializing in congenital hand and upper limb surgery. After qualifying from Newcastle University in 1990 and earning a PhD at the University of Sheffield, he completed higher surgical training on the Liverpool Rotation with fellowships in Manchester and North Carolina, USA.
Appointed consultant in 2003, he works at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital and the Regional Plastic Surgery Unit in Merseyside, where he served as Clinical Director (2009–2016). He is President of BAPRAS and has held senior roles with the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, including examining and advisory positions for over a decade.
Mr McArthur has a strong overseas interest, completing two BFIRST missions to Kenya — in 2019 for congenital hand conditions and in 2020 for adult hand trauma, burn contracture, and paediatric surgery — and a 2024 visit to Ethiopia for congenital hand training. His clinical interests include congenital hand differences, cerebral palsy and spasticity, and upper limb reconstruction.
